Neil Singleton
Chair of Board
My working life before retirement has been in the management of public services, including Director of Social Services for Cheshire and Management Consultancy. I have enjoyed being a board member of Arena since its formation and from September 2007 have been privileged to be its Chair.
It is refreshing and stimulating to be part of an organisation where the people throughout it are committed to benefiting residents and their communities and are constantly looking for ways of improving how things are done.
I am proud to be part of a great team of residents, staff, board members and our many partners from elsewhere, who together make Arena such a success.
John Eccles
Deputy Chair of Board
I headed the Land Registry Operation on Merseyside before taking charge of the Telford Business for the final six years of my Land Registry career prior to retirement in 2005.
I serve also as a Non-Executive Director on the Cheshire Probation Board and sit as a Panel Member for “Investors in People” in the North-West
I came to the Group Board after being a member and Chair of the Arena Homes Board. My position now gives a much wider perspective looking across the Group and its Subsidiaries as opposed to involvement in one Subsidiary. My job as Deputy Chair is to support the Chair and Chief Executive in the creation of policies and strategies which deliver high quality front-line services through our people.
In short, looking for Arena to be the best and in so doing ensuring for everyone the long-term viability and sustainability of the Group.
Anne Flynn
Board Member
Chair of Arena Future
Champion for corporate and social responsibility I have worked in housing for 25 years in a variety of roles, with 10 years at Executive Director level. I have particular interest and experience in social regeneration, and my early career included nursing, public relations and research into housing at Liverpool University.
Arena is an interesting place to work, and I feel part of a team which is trying to make a difference to fragile neighbourhoods and vulnerable people.
Jack Carter
Board Member
Champion for resident involvement I worked for 22 years with the Inland Revenue in London and Edinburgh. I currently work with Merseyside Police as an independent advisor on their diversity agenda. My current full time work is as principal finance officer for the Governments Sure Start agenda working with Liverpool City Council.

I have been involved in a governance role with Arena since 1999, prior to Board involvement I worked as a resident on the resident’s forum. (I ceased to be a resident in 2001 but was invited to remain on the Board)
In my world, anything that requires that kind of commitment must lend value to my own agenda around equality and social inclusion. Arena listens and acts and is committed to developing its corporate social policy.
Best of all, I utterly enjoy working with my fellow board members, admire the professionalism of Arena staff and I’m humbled by the determined approach staff at all levels have to inclusiveness and support for the people most vulnerable in society.
Kevin Stewart
Board Member
My early career was working as a chartered surveyor primarily in estates, maintenance, refurbishment
and new build. I currently work for Merseyside Passenger Transport Executive as a senior manager heading up a team dealing with a diverse property portfolio.
Working with Arena gives me the opportunity to put something back into the community.
Malcolm Haigh
Board Member
Board champion for Growth I have spent career working in various roles in the National Health Service in Sheffield, Nottinghamshire, Cambridge, Hull, South Cheshire and Warrington, latterly as Executive Director of Warrington Health Authority. I became Chair of Arena when it was formed in 2001 and stood down as Chair at the 2007 Annual General Meeting.
It is a real pleasure to be involved with such a great team of talented and committed people, and being able to see real benefits achieved for all Arena Group residents.
Mark Tattersall
Board Member
I have previously worked as a Managing Director Lending at London Scottish Bank plc.
It is good to work for an organisation like Arena, that can make such a positive contribution to people’s lives.
Mavis Wareham

Governance Champion My professional background is in Human Resources, and I am a chartered fellow of the institute of personnel and development. I have recently retired as Chairman of the St Helens and Knowsley Hospitals Trust.
The satisfaction I get from being a board member is working with a great team who do what they say they will, and put residents at the centre of thinking, planning and delivery.
