Equality of Opportunity: We seek to provide equality of opportunity in employment, promotion, training and development. We operate flexible, non-discriminatory, open and accountable employment practices and policies in the workplace and take positive steps to inform people from all sectors of the community about our job vacancies, in order to recruit from as wide a pool of applicants as possible. Employment statistics are held on all job applicants, interviewees and appointments by gender, ethnic origin and disability, and these are monitored as recommended by the Disability Rights Commission, the Equal Opportunities Commission and the Commission for Racial Equality. We participate in relevant initiatives aimed at the development and promotion of good practice, for example, the 'Positive about Disability' scheme run by the Employment Service. Equal Opportunities is itself a core component of the induction training for all new staff and we have links with Innervision, which is a local training unit specialising in issues of equal opportunities and diversity. Refresher courses are also run regularly for employees as part of the extensive in-house training we provide, to ensure all members of staff are aware of the impact of discrimination and prejudice on their work and understand their role in implementing Arena's Equal Opportunities and Dignity at Work policies. |
