More About Foyers. Our three successful Foyers aim to provide good quality accommodation in a safe environment where young people can learn and develop, and make the transition to independence. The living accommodation is self-contained and for people between 16 and 25. Residents benefit from the practical support of Foyer staff who provide information, advice and guidance on employment, education, training and housing related matters. Learning is a key part of a young persons stay at all YPS schemes. Residents are helped to identify their own targets and learning needs when they arrive. The goals set in the young person's action plan reflect their individual needs and can include anything from budgeting to parenting skills. Monthly reviews ensure that they stay on track and receive the support they need. Young people take part in a range of activities and learning opportunities, such as Healthy Living, Citizenship, Preparation for Work, Literacy, Numeracy and IT skills. As well as more practical help and support with Independent Living including cooking, caring for yourself and budgeting. Once a young person is ready to move on they will learn the skills they need to live independently and manage their own tenancy. All of this is provided within an environment offering community and peer group support. Residents have the opportunity to gain qualifications and accreditation for the skills they develop while living at a YPS sceme. | |
